The HCG weight loss program is gaining more popularity as many people are beginning to understand how it works putting their knowledge to use eventually seeing impressive results. What is the HCG diet?

This is a very low calorie diet (VLCD) that specifies a daily intake of 500 calories. This is done during phase two, also known as the maintenance phase. The maintenance phase is a 20 to 21 day period characterized by very strict dieting and taking of the HCG supplement.  It is also a high protein low carbohydrate diet. Usually only proteins and vegetables can be eaten during the maintenance phase. What food make up this diet and how much of it can you consume per day?

It must be stressed that the diet is limiting on the variety of food one can it, this is just part of its mechanism of function. The initial list was proposed in the 1950s by Dr. A T W Simeons in his queat to treat some of his patients who suffered from obesity. There is a new list of foods that have been included to Dr. Simeons’ original list. The following foods are recommended by this diet:

  1. Proteins

Most of this diet is protein based. And animal protein is the most recommended. However, it is must be noted that any cooked meat must be done so without any bones. The following are recommended;

  • White fish
  • Crab
  • Lobster
  • Chicken breast
  • Shrimp
  • 96% premium lean ground beef
  1. Vegetables

The various vegetables including on this list include:

  • Any kind of lettuce, cabbage, chard
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Fennel
  • Asparagus
  • Celery
  1. Fruit

These are usually take after a meal. Make sure one fruit is take for luch and another one for dinner. The following fruits are recommended:

  • Apple
  • Blueberries (handful)
  • Strawberries
  • Lemons
  1. Drinks and other foods
  • Tea
  • Mineral water
  • Vinegar
  • Apple cider
  • Any natural herb or spice, salt pepper or garlic
  • Mustard

In conclusion, these foods are very helpful in keeping the calorie intake low. Make sure you get necessary advice from doctors or other professionals to help you make sure you follow the diet as effective and as comfortable as possible.
